This is where I work.

This week has been nuts around the church.
I enjoy my job, but when that job turns into a seven day work week, I tend to get a little stressed.
This week has entailed all of my job responsibilities in a whirlwind of the old “one thing after another” routine. I’ve fixed projectors, ran mic cables, worked on mics, edited, filmed, updated web pages, troubleshot video signals. My brain is mush!!!
I struggle on weeks like this to recharge. To fill my spiritual, emotional and intellectual juices. I think that people who are on staff at churches are at a bit of a disadvantage. On Sunday mornings we aren’t fully invested like a member of the congregation because we have to worry about the flow and logistics of the service.
When I need to recharge, I will take one of my lunch breaks, lock myself in my office and usually watch an online sermon from Mr. Andy Stanley. Technology means that I can refill from the comfort of my desk chair.
Right now I definitely need to “plug in”.

Here at my church I have many names. With each name comes a different hat that I am expected to wear.
It’s quite entertaining to me that if you ask each person at our church who I am and what my title is, you will get several different answers. The reason I write this is that I have several friends who are in the same field and I would imagine they get some of the same titles as well. It’s always interesting to hear people’s account of who I am in relation to our church.
To the church, I am:
- the Multimedia Specialist (my actual title)
- the sound guy
- the web guy
- the video guy
- the media guy
- the tech guy
- the mac guy
- the power point operator
- the guy with the couch in his office
I don’t mind these titles. In fact, I embrace them and think they make the job more entertaining because I never know who I am going to be each day.
Despite my many titles, I love my job.
Who are you at your job? What hats (or titles) do you wear?

Let me share something from the soul. Not just any soul. My soul.
I am new to the work world. There are many things that I am learning about myself and the people of the professional world.
I’ve come to realize that people who are chronically late (let’s call them croncs) are rock bottom on my list of people I want to work with in my day to day dealings.
There’s something about croncs that just make me lose most, if not all, of my respect. If you can’t have enough respect for me to show up to a meeting or practice on time, how can I offer you respect?
Now don’t get me wrong, this isn’t just one or two instances. I’ve tried to give these croncs the benefit of the doubt, but after two and a half months, they’ve lost it. They’ve lost my respect.
Sorry for that little rant.
Know any croncs around the office?
