my two cents (vol. 1)
I’ve experienced a few things lately that I’d love to share and put in my two cents.
The Strain
This weekend I was able to read Guillermo Del Toro’s new book – The Strain.

Guillermo Del Toro is of course the director of films like Blade II, The Devil’s Backbone, Pan’s Labyrinth and the Hellboy movies.
I must start by saying I LOVED this book.
It is very Bram Stoker meets Outbreak meets I Am Legend. The basic premise is that a virus breaks loose in New York turning all of it’s victims into vampires.
Sounds exciting I know, but I think where this book really wins is in the writing. It reads more like a big budget blockbuster than a book. I read the whole thing in a day….I’m a loser I know. I love how Del Toro manages to blend fairy tale/fantasy into pretty much everything he touches and this book is no exception. The first chapter will knock your socks off – something straight from the Grimm Brothers.
SO, go out and buy this book! I’ll let you borrow my copy if you want.
The Hangover
This movie. I love this movie. Be it crude, it was probably one of the top 5 funniest movies I’ve ever seen. Please, please, PLEASE do not go see this with your parents or your in-laws. Just trust me on this one.
Check out the trailer to get an idea of the funny goodness you’ll see:
So good.
There you go. You’re welcome.

Plugging in…
This is where I work.

This week has been nuts around the church.
I enjoy my job, but when that job turns into a seven day work week, I tend to get a little stressed.
This week has entailed all of my job responsibilities in a whirlwind of the old “one thing after another” routine. I’ve fixed projectors, ran mic cables, worked on mics, edited, filmed, updated web pages, troubleshot video signals. My brain is mush!!!
I struggle on weeks like this to recharge. To fill my spiritual, emotional and intellectual juices. I think that people who are on staff at churches are at a bit of a disadvantage. On Sunday mornings we aren’t fully invested like a member of the congregation because we have to worry about the flow and logistics of the service.
When I need to recharge, I will take one of my lunch breaks, lock myself in my office and usually watch an online sermon from Mr. Andy Stanley. Technology means that I can refill from the comfort of my desk chair.
Right now I definitely need to “plug in”.
