The song title is by Switchfoot.

There are few things in my life that have made me so angry that I shook. Literally shook. I can probably count them on one hand. Today I checked another tally mark on the anger board.

Here’s the story:

The Background

It just so happens that I am getting married in May to the wonderful and beautiful Elizabeth McGarrah. I am super excited and can’t wait for May 24th (the big day). In our wedding we are having nine attendans each. Well, my being from Dahlonega and her being from Atlanta, our wedding party does not know each, and we didn’t want awkward exchanges from our closest friends.

SO, Elizabeth and I decided to treat our wedding party to a lovely weekend at a cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We had a great cabin picked out at very reasonable price. The contracts were signed and we were good to go. Then came the phone call.

The Call

Elizabeth receives a call from “X” cabin rentals (the issue has yet to be resolved, but as soon as it is I’ll put the name so you can all e-mail them and tell them how wonderful they are) saying, “Oops, the cabin that you have reserved is being sold by the cabin’s owners.”* Then they give us a list of cabins we can choose from that are comparable. However, there was a catch.

The Catch

Convenient to “X” none of the cabins that were listed on the list were the same amount as the cabin we had picked out. They were all more expensive. Well, me being the person that I am, I didn’t think that it was very fair to charge us for something that wasn’t our fault. We can’t help it they’re selling a cabin we’ve already signed a contract to rent. Elizabeth and I picked out a replacement cabin and I proceeded to call the cabin company back to try to and negotiate. That’s when everything went stupid.

Going Stupid

I called “X” and talked to the person that Elizabeth had been dealing with. I reminded her of the situation and asked why we were responsible for paying the difference on something that they had messed up on. She tried to tell me that it wasn’t their responsibility a few times and finally said she would put her supervisor on the line.

The supervisor, we’ll call her “Mrytle,” got on and was very polite telling me how it was not their responsibility that they had screwed up. I assured her that between me (the customer) and her (the business) that it was definitely not my fault. After 15 minutes of going round and round I finally asked her if we could cancel and be done with this whole thing since we had not yet been charged for anything. She tells me of course we can cancel, we just have to pay the cancellation fee….WHAT?!? “What are we canceling?” I ask, “you’ve canceled our cabin, we don’t have a cabin to cancel.” We go around for another five minuted and finally I tell her I’ll call her back and hang up.

So there’s where I am at the moment. I feel like I’m not alone on my opinion, that this is utterly ridiculous.

Sheesh.
